Thailand’s female monks fight for recognition

Link to the short video explaining that female monks are not recognized as equal to male monks. In Thailand, usually at least boy in a family becomes a “novice” at the local Theravada Buddhist monastery. A few of these boys stay and go on to become ordained Buddhist monks. A boy novice is considered higher than a Buddhist nun who has been studying for 50 years (or any number of years.)
